The Polus Center for Social & Economic Development, Inc. is proud to announce public screenings of their new documentary film, Blind in the Baystate: Stories from Across the Generations:
June 22, 12:00 p.m. - Greenfield Public Library, 412 Main St., Greenfield
June 24, 6:00 p.m. - Mile 61 Eclectic Tavern, 90 Main St., Barre
June 29, 12:30 p.m. - Thomas Crane Public Library - Main, 40 Washington St., Quincy
July 16th, 3:30 p.m - Carroll Center for the Blind, 770 Centre St., Newton
The film will be shown after a brief introduction by Josh Pearson, a Polus Center Project Director who grew up in Barre and co-produced the film along with Katie Crocker, followed by Q&A. Light refreshments will be served, and the Barre venue has a cash bar. Admission is free though donations to help cover film production costs would be welcome.
Blind in the Baystate highlights the stories of a diverse group of legally blind people throughout Massachusetts who grew up in different eras, exploring the impact that technology, disability legislation, and availability of services have had on people’s success and on public perceptions of blindness and disability. It was created by blind and low vision employees and interns from the Polus Center along with Director/Editor Victoria Leger. The film is intended for all audiences: people who are currently sighted, people losing their vision or supporting family members who are, and for people who are blind or visually impaired themselves. It is narrated by audio description to be accessible for all and to highlight one tool that blind people use to navigate a sight dominated world.
This project was made possible with funding from Mass Humanities, which receives support from the Mass Cultural Council and the National Endowment for the Humanities. The public viewing is supported in part by a grant from the Barre Cultural Council, a local agency which is supported by the Mass Cultural Council, a state agency.
