Students attend training on Zoom
The Human Services Training Program marked the one-year anniversary of its first cohort while concurrently kicking off its fifth session on September 12th, 2023. The program continues to see extraordinary success and receives positive feedback from participants, presenters, and employers.
The heart of the Human Services Training Program lies in equipping aspiring individuals with the foundational knowledge essential for thriving in their new careers. Featuring over 20 different speakers from various professional and personal backgrounds, the program provides participants with a transformative experience and fresh perspective. participants depart from the course with a fresh perspective. One participant noted: “This program gave me all of the skills that I needed to quickly become employed in the human services field and I felt absolutely prepared for my new job.”
To address the critical need for job readiness, the course seamlessly integrates resume writing, cover letter writing, interview skills, and job search techniques into the six-week session. Polus Center staff meet with participants in private sessions to provide highly individualized support and feedback. In a survey completed by each of the first four sessions, 100% of participants reported feeling more confident applying for jobs having completed this course. “The assistance with resume and cover letter writing has been invaluable,” one participant wrote. “[It] has given me the tools to feel confident to move forward in my job search.”
For staff, the greatest measure of success for each cohort is the community that it built amongst the participants. The members of each group, diverse in age, socioeconomic status, race, education, and experience, find a common bond in their desire to be of service to others. Everyone is happy to see one another’s successes, and the Polus Center looks forward to continuing to be a part of so many wonderful peoples’ journeys.
