Solentiname Friendship Group

The Solentiname Friendship Group is a volunteer organization of citizens from Western Massachusetts and the Solentiname Islands of Lake Nicaragua. The group is working to improve the living and working conditions of the people living on the islands. There is no electricity or running water, and limited access to medical care and educational opportunities. Many individuals and international groups have helped provide some of the needed resources to build schools, workshops, and to create water supplies for villages and irrigation.

The Solentiname Friendship Group began with the efforts of John Brentlinger, the author of The Best of What We Are: Reflections on the Nicaraguan Revolution, and a retired professor at the University of Massachusetts. John has spent several years in Nicaragua, and enjoys a long standing friendship with the people of Solentiname.
