Supporting
Homes and Building Community
CMCN helps establish and support households where
people with and without disabilities live in mutually beneficial
relationships. A shared living household is characterized by people
living, growing, and sharing together- both at home and in the
community. Every home is different, and comfortable while accomodating
the needs and preferences of each household member.
The home is the foundation upon which an active community life
is built, and CMCN believes that every person benefits from becoming
an active member of his or her community, regardless of "ability."
The CMCN Difference
Our commitment to provide individualized support
to each person we serve means that we consciously remain a small
and intimate agency. Our Shared Living Providers and individuals
receiving services all know each other well- forming the backbone
of our community network. At CMCN, our emphasis is on quality,
not quantity.
Encouraging the Creation of Valued Social Roles
By emphasizing each person's positive social roles,
helping to create new roles, and minimizing the harm caused by
sterotypes and negative social roles, CMCN encourages each person
we support to live a rich and meaningful life. Our providers and
the people we support are familiar with Social Role Valorization
and the benefits it can have in our lives.
A Commitment to Advocacy
CMCN works with each person we support to broaden
his or her awareness of their rights, privileges, and responsibilities.
In addition, we work closely with the community to create dialogue
and raise awareness surrounding issues of disability rights.
